This is basic accommodation in Chinatown but, for the price, it's a great option. For the benefit of those thinking of staying at this hotel, it's worth my setting out exactly what you to expect. I stayed in one of the male-only semi-private rooms; my understanding is that the hotel also has completely private rooms at a higher price. ROOMS: The cheapest rooms are not really rooms; they are cubicles that have no ceiling, only chicken-wire-type mesh. Inside the cubicles there is a bed and a small table. There is very little space. Each cubicle has a lockable door and guests can retain the key for their time at the hotel. There are probably 20-30 of these cubicle rooms on each floor. The walls of the cubicles are really just partitions and are made of light wood or plasterboard. The atmosphere is one of a dormitory but with visual privacy. A/C is centrally controlled. NOISE: Given that the rooms are not completely enclosed and have light partition walls, there is quite a lot of noise. Having said that, during my stay other guests were trying not to disturb others. There was no slamming of doors, shouting, speakerphone calls etc. I used wax ear plugs and/or white noise in my earphones. This blocked any noise that there was from the other cubicles and communal areas. BATHROOMS: These are not the best. They're OK in the sense of having toilets and showers that work. There's hot water always available, as far as I can tell. I think the hotel provides guests with toilet paper. WIFI: Worked very well during my stay. CLEANLINESS: The room was very clean; the shared bathrooms less so. SAFETY: The hotel felt completely safe to me. The reception requests ID from guests and the hotel seems to have some control over who stays there. LOCATION; A wonderful location in Chinatown, near subway stations and bus routes. Walking around the area is a great way to experience that part of NYC. STAFF: During my stay, the staff were friendly and helpful.

Staffs are very friendly, helpful and kind. During new year time, all rooms in Manhattan are expensive, and the price here is the lowest among all. I had read some comments before I arrived here. I was very worried about bugs and insecurity. In fact, I stayed here five nights, and didn’t see bugs. I suggest throwing the trash in the hall trash can after finishing your food, just in case the bugs appear. And the homeless people at hall actually did not bother guests. It’s winter time, I don’t mind homeless people staying at hall since it’s cold outside, just as long as they do not harass the guests.

A room at this hotel is great value for NYC. The location, in Chinatown, is ideal for getting to most places. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are just cubicles - the cheapest ones have visual privacy but do not have full ceilings. This means that you can hear everyone around you. Guests are generally respectful and quiet but I used earplugs and headphone with music/white noise in order to sleep well. Check-out time is generous at 12pm The hotel will store your bags for the day if you have to explore NYC before moving elsewhere.

New York is a challenging urban environment and exremely expensive, and this little old hotel on the lower Eastside, on Bowery, quite reminiscent of an oriental establishment, is about as good a deal as anyone on a tight budget can expect. Everything necessary is provided, there are good clean bathrooms with plentiful hot water, and the staff and longer-term guests are quite accommodating. It's a nice hour's walk up Broadway to Times Square, and lots to see and do on the way.

I loved the value. I didn't mind the guys walking around at night or the occasional smoke smell, the frequent doors opening and closing or the fact that most guys do jack it and you hear every sound that your neighbor makes. It happens. It is a relatively safe neighborhood with a friendly front desk agent at all times. I have never had any issues with this hotel and I have stayed here 10+ times.
